Are you ready for Amphibia?

Amphibia, a vigorous new exercise program at the Randolph YMCA, is where land and water meet.  Designed for the seasoned athlete, this class combines intense water components, such as water running, aquatic plyometrics, and AQx training with land exercise activities on the pool deck, all geared to strengthen your core and build your endurance.

Kevin Laue Basketball Clinic

The Randolph YMCA is hosting a special event on Saturday, March 16th.  Kevin Laue, the first  player with one hand to play Division I College Basketball, will be running a clinic for children ages 5 to 15 with limb loss.  Kevin has been recognized for his skills and success in overcoming adversity. Activities will be held in the gym and the warm water pool, and include a movie and a snack.  Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the program.

Youth Fitness Programming

October 1st marks the start of the Youth Fitness class schedule for children ages 5 through 12. Monday is Ballet Basics where students stretch and dance to learn the foundations of ballet.  The class is fun for all levels of dancers.  This class is recommended for boys and girls ages 5 to 8.  J.I.F. - Jump into Fitness - is offered on Tuesday for both 5 to 7 year olds and a more advanced class for 8 to 12 year olds.  Jumping rope improves cardio endurance, builds core strength and increases eye, hand and leg coordination.  Also on Tuesday is Skills and Drills for ages 5 to 7.  This class helps participants gain strength, balance and agility, an excellent preparation for future endeavors in sports and fitness.  Ages 8 through 12 can participate in cardio and strength circuits on Wednesday during Power Hour using BOSU and stability balls, medecine balls and steps.  Youth Yoga is offered on Thursdays.  An introductory class is taught in a playful, lighthearted spirit for 5 to 8 year olds, and a more advanced class, geared to developing strength, flexibility and coordination as well as deepening concentration and relaxation is available for ages 9 to 12.

Adult Swim Lessons

Have you managed to reach adulthood without learning to swim?  Are you terrified of the water?  The Randolph YMCA has a solution.  Swim lessons for adults are offered in a very small group setting where instruction is individualized to meet each person's needs.  Instructors are experienced working with the special concerns of adults.  Lessons are available on Saturday morning, Sunday late afternoon, and Wednesday late afternoons.  In addition to group lessons, private lessons can also be arranged if this would be more comfortable for you.  To register for class, contact Pat Rainier at 973-366-1120 ext. 35.

Swim Team Tryouts

Did your family enjoy watching the swimming competition during the Olympics this summer?  Has your child had fun racing for their summer swim team?  Would you like to continue these experiences by participating on a winter swim team?
The Randolph YMCA Sharks Swim Team is a year-round competitive program for swimmers from 6 through 18 years. The team participates in both YMCA and NJ Swimming meets, offering a broad program for both beginning and experienced swimmers.
The process begins by attending tryouts held for swimmers aged 10 and Under (age as of December 1, 2012) on Wednesday, September 5 and for swimmers 11 and over on Thursday, September 6 at the Randolph Y,  Registration both nights is from 6:00 to 6:20pm followed by tryouts in the pool at 6:30pm.

Healthy Kids Day

Calling all families! Healthy Kids Day will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28th from 1:00 until 4:00pm at the Randolph YMCA. There are a large number of healthy activities to enjoy including Aquatic Boot Camp and a Parent-Child swim lesson available in the Warm Water Pool. The gym will feature CATCH games and Youth Fitness and Family Exercise programs as well as JIF, Jump into Fitness. Nutritional information, a Camp Expo, and an opportunity to make your own First Aid kit will round out the choices available.
A highlight of the festivities will be a raffle for a custom-fitted bike, a 6-month family membership, and lots of other prizes. A healthy snack will be provided. So make time on Saturday afternoon to stop by the Randolph Y. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Randolph Y Swimmers Compete at Y Nationals

Nine swimmers from the Randolph YMCA qualified to compete in the YMCA National Short-Course Swimming Championship. The meet was held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, an impressive facility less than a year old. More than 210 teams from across the United States travelled to Greensboro for this competition. Under the guidance of Coach Ray Fischer and Coach Hilary Yates, the swimmers achieved 25 individual career best times. Special honors go to 15-year-old Brandon Tutty who finished 16th in the Men's 100 Breaststroke.
