Specialty Camps

The Randolph YMCA will be offering a series of special interest camps this year offering children something different for their summer vacation. They are short in duration and are designed to awaken a new interest, deepen knowledge of a current activity, or just to have some fun!

The first of these is Learn to Fish. This 3-day camp for children 6 to 15 will help with fishing technique and teach casting skills, how to identify different types of fish, and how to have fun fishing, a lifetime activity. The first two days will be held indoors on June 8th and 9th and an outdoor fishing session on June 15th will conclude the program.

The week of July 8th to 12th will be very busy with three different opportunities available. For girls ages 4 to 6 there is the Princess Ballet Camp. Each afternoon the dancers will have a new craft to create and choreography to learn. At the end of the week the dancers will perform for family and friends.

Also held from July 8th to 12th in the mornings is a Lacrosse Camp for boys and girls in first through third grade. Participants will be introduced to the game of lacrosse in a fun and interactive way that will teach them the basics of the game. This camp will explore fundamental skills such as cradling, passing, catching, and shooting. Fun practice games will be included.

A third camp available that week is the Competitive Swim Clinic. This camp will focus on stroke technique for the four competitive strokes as well as racing starts, turns, and finishes. Swimmers should have a good basic swimming foundation before registering for this clinic.

A Summer Dance Camp is on the agenda for July 15th to 19th. This week of dance will consist of learning all styles of dance including jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and ballet. This week for dancers ages 7 to 9 will include crafts, activities, and fun.

Swimmers ages 8 to 14 might want to try the Swim Fit Camp during the week of July 22nd to 26th. This camp will focus on mental, technical, and physical fitness achieved through the sport of swimming. Video analysis will help participants achieve their true potential.

The final specialty camp being offered is Junior Lifeguarding. This is a prep course for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training. Offered August 5th to 9th, participants will learn what it takes to become a lifeguard, in the pool and out. CPR certification is included.

Availability in these mini camps is limited. For more information on any of these programs or to register your child, contact Jordan Heymann at jordanwmaymca@aol.com or call 973-366-1120 ext. 23.
