Youth Fitness Programming

October 1st marks the start of the Youth Fitness class schedule for children ages 5 through 12. Monday is Ballet Basics where students stretch and dance to learn the foundations of ballet.  The class is fun for all levels of dancers.  This class is recommended for boys and girls ages 5 to 8.  J.I.F. - Jump into Fitness - is offered on Tuesday for both 5 to 7 year olds and a more advanced class for 8 to 12 year olds.  Jumping rope improves cardio endurance, builds core strength and increases eye, hand and leg coordination.  Also on Tuesday is Skills and Drills for ages 5 to 7.  This class helps participants gain strength, balance and agility, an excellent preparation for future endeavors in sports and fitness.  Ages 8 through 12 can participate in cardio and strength circuits on Wednesday during Power Hour using BOSU and stability balls, medecine balls and steps.  Youth Yoga is offered on Thursdays.  An introductory class is taught in a playful, lighthearted spirit for 5 to 8 year olds, and a more advanced class, geared to developing strength, flexibility and coordination as well as deepening concentration and relaxation is available for ages 9 to 12.

These classes are available to Full Randolph YMCA members. For more information and specific times for Youth Fitness Programming contact Kathy Lamia at 973-366-1120 ext. 43.

Adult Swim Lessons

Have you managed to reach adulthood without learning to swim?  Are you terrified of the water?  The Randolph YMCA has a solution.  Swim lessons for adults are offered in a very small group setting where instruction is individualized to meet each person's needs.  Instructors are experienced working with the special concerns of adults.  Lessons are available on Saturday morning, Sunday late afternoon, and Wednesday late afternoons.  In addition to group lessons, private lessons can also be arranged if this would be more comfortable for you.  To register for class, contact Pat Rainier at 973-366-1120 ext. 35.

Aquatic Boot Camp

The Randolph YMCA is featuring a new water-based program, Aquatic Boot Camp, designed around the Hydroworx X80 underwater treadmill. It is a 45 minute high-intensity workout including upper-body exercises, spinning, tethered swimming, and core and lower-body strength moves. It is the same type of program that world class runners use for training.

The addition of three X80's to the already superior aquatic training equipment at the Randolph YMCA has enhanced staff's ability to meet the needs of all segments of our membership, from elite athletes to people needing rehab after injury or members looking for a new and different form of workout.

For more information, check out the article in Runner's World at http://news.runnersworld.com/2012/03/19/aquatic-boot-camp-not-for-wimps/ or call Kathy Fisher at the Randolph Y at 973-366-1120 ext. 14.
